A number of market reports have stated that illegal file-sharing has reduced in recent years, and most have concluded that this is due to improved digital music services, rather than a sudden change of heart amongst music lovers about the legality of piracy.
Analysts expect future mobile music sales growth to be driven by a combination of different business models. Digital music download sales, in which music is “side-loaded” from the customer’s PC to their PMP will continue and, as the capability of smartphone increases, it is expected that “cloud-based” streaming business models and download models, direct to the customer’s smartphone will dominate.
It has long been predicted that the customer’s phone will become the prime access-point for their music, whether it be Broadcast, Narrow cast, On-Demand or Downloaded. The technology platforms needed for this to happen are only now coming into place and this will further accelerate the demand for an improved mobile listening experience.
